RINCON — Police say a man who had been reported missing was fatally stabbed before being dismembered.

The remains of 35-year-old Charles Ray were found in bags at a house in Rincon and in a storage facility in South Carolina. Police found the man after 34-year-old Chad Moretz was fatally shot during a police standoff Friday night.

Authorities say Moretz likely killed Ray, but have not yet determined a motive in the slaying. Police were called to Moretz's house after he held his wife, Kimberly, hostage with an assault rifle.

Police say the woman eventually escaped and Moretz was shot when he walked onto the porch holding a gun.

Kimberly Moretz and her brother, Kevin Lambert, are being held without bond in the Effingham County Jail on charges of concealing a death.
