Pembroke police have identified George Mincey III, 24, of Pembroke as the suspect of a Sunday night armed robbery.

Mincey was arrested in a DuBois Street apartment after he allegedly entered the Quick Stop at 186 North Main Street in Pembroke with a semi-automatic handgun, forced the store clerk to the ground with the gun against his head and stole $500 before fleeing on foot, according to a second press release from the Pembroke Police Department on Tuesday.

Sgt. Matthew Lynn said Mincey has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a fire arm by a convicted felon and burglary and is in jail awaiting a bond hearing.

The release states that Star Cpl. Brandon McElveen responded around 9:30 p.m. to the Quick Stop in reference to an armed robbery and immediately secured the store. Video surveillance was reviewed and seized as evidence. Evidence was also seized during the arrest.

The incident is still under investigation, according to the release.

Police ask that anyone with information on the case call 653-4409 to leave an anonymous tip.
