A man suspected in the strangulation death of his wife in Dec. is behind bars, charged Wednesday with murder.

Shirley Meyer, 55, was found dead Dec. 8 around 1:30 p.m. in the couple’s Buchan Road home, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson, Accused of her death is Douglas Meyer, 58, Buchan Road, Pembroke,

While Meyers has a Pembroke mailing address, the home is in Bulloch County.

When sheriff’s investigators processed the scene, “Certain circumstances concerning the discovery of the victim raised concerns to Inv. Dusty Williams,” Anderson said. “The deceased was sent to (the Georgia Bureau of Investigation) Coastal Crime Lab for an autopsy.”

The autopsy revealed that Shirley Meyer was strangled to death. Investigators developed further information as the case progressed and obtained an arrest warrant Wednesday, he said.

Meyer was taken into custody and transported to the Bulloch County Jail, where he is held without bond and awaits further judicial action, he said.

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
