North Bryan wreck kills two
Neither wearing seat belt, GSP said
Georgia State Patrol

Two women were killed Wednesday afternoon on Highway 80 in Blitchton when the driver lost control of her 1997 Ford Probe and hit a tractor-trailer head on.

The driver, Martha Ann Huggins Barker, 64, of Metter, and her passenger, 51-year-old Wanda Joyce Mitchell of Cobbtown, died in the crash, according to a report from Georgia State Patrol Master Trooper Henry Gilliard.

Neither woman was wearing a seatbelt or shoulder restraint, according to Gilliard’s report. The driver of the 1997 Freightliner, James Greer, was not hurt. He was wearing a seat belt and shoulder restraint.

The GSP report said Barkers’ car was heading west on Highway 80 around 3:10 p.m. when it ran off the road and traveled 70 feet on the north shoulder. Barker apparently overcorrected and steered the Probe back across the highway, where it hit the truck head on, the report said.

No charges were filed.
