A motorist who drove at speeds in excess of 100 mph was taken to Memorial University Medical Center after the vehicle struck the back of a tractor-trailer on the off-ramp at Exit 94 off Interstate 95 in Savannah.

Richmond Hill police tried to stop the motorist near Exit 90 at Highway 144, but the vehicle, which was driven erratically, sped off, RHPD Maj. Mike Albritton said.

As the vehicle tried to exit onto Highway 204 in Savannah, it struck the back of the big rig and flipped over an embankment, Albritton said.

The driver’s condition was not immediately available, and charges are pending, Albritton said.

Exit 94 was closed for several hours while authorities investigated.
