A Midway man, Ethan Pringle, 26, was killed by a hit-and-run driver early Saturday, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Matt Southern.

Based on Southern’s media report, the incident happened Saturday at 5:20 a.m. on Highway 17 near the Georgia state line.

The report said Pringle, who was later identified by the Jasper County Coroner, was hit by a vehicle as he was walking south along the highway. Southern’s report said the car was also headed south.

The driver struck Pringle, then fled the scene.

The vehicle was described as dark, possibly a 2014-2016 Chevrolet Impala. Southern reported the car may have damage to the left front bumper or fender, damage to the front windshield and the driver’s side mirror may be damaged or missing.

Pringle was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, and later died from the injuries he sustained.
