Gary Tabb, 55, owner of The Pizza Peddler in Midway and two pawnshops, died Monday morning when he was hit on I-95 near Brunswick.
Family and friends are remembering him, besides as a successful businessman, as a devoted family man."He loved life and was a people person," his obituary says.
The Georgia State Patrol reported that Tabb had stopped his pickup on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of the interstate and was apparently trying to get to something on foot on the other side. He was hit by a northbound pickup in the center lane about 10:15 a.m.
Friends said Monday evening they had heard he was trying to retrieve something that had blown out of his truck, but the Brunswick News reports officials are unsure what he was doing out of his vehicle.
The driver of the other pickup, who has not been charged with any violations, had not been identified.
Tabb is survived by his wife, Kim Tabb of Midway, three children and four grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel.
