SAVANNAH — A Savannah man is being indicted on charges of rape, murder and additional offenses in the death of Amber DeLoach, whose body was found in a burning car on Sept. 30.

The Savannah Morning News (http://bit.ly/U56eeH) reports a seven-count grand jury indictment charges Shan Demetruis Cheley, 36, with strangling 18-year-old DeLoach, a former St. Vincent's Academy and Islands High School student. Authorities say firefighters were extinguishing a blaze that engulfed a car when they discovered the woman's body.

The newspaper reports Cheley is being held without bond in the Chatham County jail. He is charged with malice murder, felony murder during the commission of an aggravated assault and rape, aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance.

It is unclear if Cheley has a lawyer.
