Between Wednesday and Sunday, Georgia State Troopers will be watching for “impaired drivers, occupant protection violations, and speed violations,” on Georgia’s roads, according to Col. Bill Hitchens, the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
Troopers will especially be cracking down on seat belt violations and child restraint violations as part of Operation Click It or Ticket.
“The nationwide mobilization began last week and continues through the holiday period with law enforcement officers across the country working to save lives through enforcement,” Hitchens said.
Hitchens reminded motorists to designate a driver and allow for extra time for travel delays, according to the press release.
 “Anticipate travel delays,” he said, “and be prepared should rain make driving conditions hazardous.”
In the past five years, 95 people have been killed and 6,225 people have been injured in traffic accidents during the Thanksgiving holiday week.
In addition to the increased patrols, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced the suspension of all construction-related lane closures from Wednesday to Sunday. 
Locally, there have recently been lane closures on I-95 between Savannah and Richmond Hill.
“Georgians are exceedingly patient with our construction throughout the year,” DOT Commissioner Vance C. Smith Jr. “We appreciate it very much and enjoy giving them these well-deserved breaks from lane closures. We hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving.”
