Bill Massey and Lauren Hand from the Dewberry Firm and Jeff Morris from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently presented the Bryan County Emergency Services (BCES) with the completion of a Georgia Hurricane Evacuation Study Technical Data Report paid for by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The Georgia Hurricane Evacuation Study Technical Data Report (TDR) was developed to evaluate the major factors that must be considered in hurricane preparedness and to provide Georgia emergency management officials with information needed to support hurricane evacuation decision making.
State and county agencies can use the technical data presented in this report to supplement and/or revise their hurricane evacuation plans and operational procedures, enabling them to more effectively respond to future hurricane threats.
The study area for the Georgia TDR focused on the coastal counties of Chatham, Bryan, Liberty, McIntosh, Glynn and Camden and the inland coastal counties of Effingham, Long, Wayne, Brantley and Charlton. The inland coastal counties of Effingham, Long, Wayne, Brantley and Charlton were included as a part of the study area as small portions of these counties have the potential to be inundated by storm surge.
