Resurfacing has begun on a 3.4-mile stretch of Highway 144 from Interstate 95 to east of Timber Trail in Richmond Hill, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

The intersection of Highways 144 and 17 will also be resurfaced, extending on Highway 17 onto either side of Highway 144 to include all turn lanes.

Work will be performed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday, but weekend work could also occur, according to GDOT.

All work is weather-contingent.

The $1.4 million resurfacing project was awarded to East Coast Asphalt LLC of Douglas. Work is expected to be completed by this fall.

Motorists are advised to reduce speeds as they travel through this construction work zone. Message signs, barrels or cones will be used to alert the public of the changes. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will operate close to travel lanes.
