Halloween turns violent
bryan county sheriff even larger

The following information is taken from Bryan County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Deputies responded to a house on Bent Tree Way after a woman reported being struck in the face while passing out candy on Halloween.

The woman said someone rang the doorbell around 9 p.m. and she opened it, assuming it was children trick-or-treating. She told deputies that when she opened the door someone wearing a “Jason” mask from the Friday the 13thmovies punched her in the left eye and ran off. Deputies were unable to locate the person in the area and neighbors said they did not see anyone matching that description.

Neighborhood watch — A woman on Cartertown Road reported about noon on Wednesday that a man was walking around her neighbor’s house with a rifle. The report said when the deputy arrived the man saw his patrol vehicle and ran off into the woods. He was described as a white male with blonde shoulder-length hair wearing a light blue sweatshirt and jeans. Deputies searched the area but could not find him.

Wired — Deputies on Wednesday were called to a construction site on Highway 144 near Fort McAllister Road for a report of stolen copper wire. The site is being developed as the McAllister Pointe subdivision. A total of 23 rolls of the tracer wire was reported missing with a total value of $1,380. The items included three blue, three green and 17 yellow rolls. Tracer wire is placed next to buried water lines to assist in locating them from above ground.

It’s not a boat — A woman was arrested for DUI after driving her vehicle into the pond on Cool Breeze Lane off of Belfast River Road about 8 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies said the woman’s vehicle was completely submerged in the pond 100 feet from the embankment. The woman was being checked by Bryan County EMS when deputies arrived. Once the vehicle was removed from the pond, a half-empty bottle of tequila was found on the passenger’s side floor board, leading to a citation of open alcohol container for the woman.
