Fort Stewart soldier involved in shooting

A Fort Stewart soldier was involved in a domestic shooting on Savannah's Southside Tuesday morning, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department Information Officer Gena Moore has confirmed.

Just after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Woodley Road after receiving calls of a shooting.
"Officers found a man lying in his front yard suffering from a gunshot wound," the SCMPD release read. "His wife, the alleged shooter, was still in the area. She had run to get help. Both people were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The man is suffering from what are believed to be life threatening injuries. The woman, a soldier in the U.S. Army is also being treated. SCMPD Violent Crime detectives responded to the scene and are investigating."

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
