Fire burining at Interstate Paper
Placeholder Image

A fire at Interstate Paper in Riceboro this morning is burning one of the mill's dry kilns.
Liberty County Fire Services Coordinator James Ashdown reported there had been no injuries from the blaze that started around 7. Firefighters from several departments were called in, but early reports were that the building and the logs inside were full engulfed in flames.
No cause was reported and it is unclear what the fire is doing to work schedules.
Dry kilns are where logs are prepared for the paper making process. Interstate makes kraft linerboard at the mill.
