STATESBORO — Georgia Southern University officials say an Ogeechee Technical College student who reported being shot during an attempted armed robbery on the university's campus has been charged with making a false report.

University officials say 19-year-old Dexter Michael Dorsey, who had reported that two men tried to rob him while he walked home Sunday night and wound up being shot in the hand, was arrested on Wednesday.

Officials say Dorsey has been booked into the Bulloch County jail and has been banned from the Georgia Southern campus. They say they don't know how he received the hand injury.
