The Los Angeles Sheriff's Departments announced Monday that Pvt. Daniel Brazelton, a 3rd Infantry Division soldier who escaped from custody Friday, is considered armed and dangerous.
A news release from Fort Stewart's Public Affairs Office Monday said Brazelton was being held in the Liberty County Jail awaiting extradition to Los Angeles County. He escaped from a van being driven by a military escort Friday. The van was stopped in traffic. PAO reported Brazelton was being returned to the jail following a medical appointment on Fort Stewart.
The LASD believes Brazelton may be in possession of a handgun and should be considered armed and dangerous. A search for Brazelton is being conducted by local law enforcement and Army personnel.
"Suspect Daniel Brazelton is wanted for the alleged rape of a minor and for escape," said Capt. Mike Parker with the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
Brazelton is described as white, 20 years old, 5'07", 167 pounds, with shortly cropped black hair and brown eyes. He was clean-shaven at the time of his escape. If seen, the public is asked to call law enforcement to take him into custody.
