Ellabell woman dies in Effingham crash

An Ellabell woman died Monday in a car wreck on Hwy. 80 in Effingham County.

According to a Georgia State Patrol report, 71-year-old Phyllis L. Googe of Ellabell was driving a Ford F-150 and exiting a driveway around 3:45 p.m., when she pulled in front of the path of a dump truck heading east on Hwy. 80.

The dump truck, driven by 51-year-old Clayton Mitchell of Rincon, slammed into the driver’s side of the Ford, sending the pickup into the ditch across the street.

According to the report, Googe died at the scene and Mitchell was uninjured.

No charges have been filed.
