Cruelty to animals
May 26 – A Richmond Hill juvenile male was disciplined after witnesses reported the boy was shooting a duck with a pellet gun on Crosswind Drive. The deputy spoke with the boy and told him of the seriousness of the event.

DUI
May 28 – A Statesboro man was arrested around 6 a.m. on Hwy. 119 outside of Pembroke. The deputy stopped the vehicle after the driver first came to a complete stop in the road, and then proceeded to cross the white line three times. After stopping and approaching the vehicle, the deputy detected a strong odor of alcohol, and witnessed several opened bottles of alcohol in the vehicle.

Theft
May 24 – A Richmond Hill woman reported her computer was stolen after she took the computer to a man at the WalMart on Hwy. 17, and he was supposed to get it fixed. When the two arranged a pick-up time and meeting place, the woman arrived but the man never did. She said she believed the man “has no intention of returning the computer.”

Burglary
June 6 – Police responded to a burglary near Homestead Drive in Ellabell after a woman reported a burglary at her home. She said someone pried open her back door, came inside and stole several 12-ounce cans of Coke and a plate of around a dozen brownies, and then let themselves out through her front door. She also said she’d found child-sized tracks on her carpet, though she’d already vacuumed when deputies arrived.

Disorderly conduct
May 25 – A Richmond Hill man was arrested around 10 p.m. near Valley Oak Drive in the Live Oak subdivision for streaking. The man took off his clothes, jumped into the pool and then ran down Valley Oak Drive, still naked. The man said he jumped into the pool naked, but only ran down the street naked because his friends took his clothing.

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
