Charges were filed Wednesday against the 20-year-old victim of the recent shooting at the Plantation Apartments on Casey Drive in Richmond Hill.
Andrew Koenigsfeld was charged with affray, battery and conspiracy to commit a crime, all misdemeanors, according to Cpl. Susan Willis of the Richmond Hill Police Department. Koenigsfeld was shot in the jaw Dec. 1 by a 15-year-old male on the grounds of Plantation Apartments, an event that locked down the Richmond Hill Middle and High Schools.
Willis said Friday arrangements were being made for Koenigsfeld to turn himself in.
Koenigsfeld was charged because he and the shooter intended to fight on the afternoon of Dec. 1, Willis said. The pair knew each other through the shooter’s older brother. Willis couldn’t say what they were fighting about, but characterized it as a “general disagreement.”
Koenigsfeld was shot in the jaw around 3 p.m. that day during an altercation. He was taken to Memorial University Health Center in Savannah and was released the following day.
The 15-year-old turned himself into Richmond Hill police at 6:40 p.m. on the day of the shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm during a commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a person under the age of 18, all felonies, and was transferred to the Claxton Regional Youth Detention Center.
The shooter, whose name was not released, will reside in the youth detention center until the trial, Willis said. The court has not yet announced a trial date.
The incident on Dec. 1 forced the nearby middle and high schools to lock down for more than an hour, from around 3 p.m. to around 4:20 p.m. The lockdown did occur after normal school hours, but some children were still on the grounds for after-school activities, school officials previously said.
Police previously said schools were locked down as a precautionary measure and because they received conflicting reports about where the juvenile went after the shooting.
The shooter was a student at Richmond Hill High School. However, because of the incident, he has been permanently expelled from the Bryan County School system.
