The body of a man discovered Feb. 20 in Richmond Hill alongside Interstate 95, near the 144 interchange, has been identified as Charles Michael Stoyle, according to Richmond Hill Police Department Chief of Detectives Dana Strickland.

After an autopsy at the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta, it was concluded that Stoyle, 58, who suffered from undisclosed health issues, died from undetermined natural causes. No foul play is suspected.

Authorities still aren’t certain how Stoyle ended up in a ditch next to the interstate.

Stoyle had been staying on Fort Stewart with his daughter and son-in-law, who is an active-duty soldier. Stoyle’s family reported him missing Feb. 19. He was found the following day by a maintenance worker who was preparing to mow the grass next to the highway, Strickland said.

Stoyle’s son-in-law, who dropped him off Jan. 27 at Love’s Truck Stop in Richmond Hill, told investigators it was not uncommon for Stoyle to go out on his own for days at a time before returning. However, when the family didn’t hear from Stoyle for more than two weeks, they became concerned and contacted authorities, Strickland said.
