A former Army medic has pleaded guilty to destroying evidence in a double slaying to protect what prosecutors say was a militia group operating within the military at Fort Stewart.

Former Pfc. Christopher Jenderseck was allowed to avoid further jail time in the plea deal he agreed to Monday in Liberty County Superior Court. He's among 10 people — eight of them current and former Fort Stewart soldiers — jailed and accused by prosecutors of belonging to a group that plotted to bomb a Savannah park fountain, poison apples in Washington state and assassinate the president.

Jenderseck admitted to destroying clothing, shotgun shells and a cellphone after the December killings of former soldier Michael Roark and his girlfriend, Tiffany York. He agreed to testify against other defendants.
