The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the death of an Alma man whose body was found Sunday on the unpaved portion of Briar Bay Road outside of Riceboro.
Trooper Bruce DeLoach said John Drew Daniels, 65, was found by a couple riding their motorcycle in the area shortly after 4 p.m. DeLoach said it appears Daniels lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown face-first into a ditch that contained water. DeLoach said an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
It is not known what Daniels was doing in the area. DeLoach said Daniels was last seen in Alma around noon on Saturday. He told his family he was going for a ride.
“We think he may have gotten lost in the area because the accident didn’t happen too far from the blacktop road,” DeLoach said. The trooper thinks the accident occurred early Saturday evening.
