Alleged child predators arrested

ATLANTA — On Thursday, the Southeast Georgia Child Exploitation Task Force, an interagency law-enforcement operation that focuses on child-exploitation activities in the area and is led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, made several arrests in and around Savannah, according to FBI Atlanta Field Office Special Agent in Charge J. Britt Johnson.
The task force — in conjunction with the Richmond Hill Police Department, Pooler Police Department, Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force — conducted a joint law-enforcement operation focusing on child-exploitation matters in the Savannah and Bryan County areas.
As a result of that operation, the following individuals have been arrested in Georgia and face state charges related to child exploitation:
• Gerard Joseph Caouette, 24, of Hinesville, is charged with use of computer service to seduce, solicit, lure or entice a child to commit an illegal act — felony.
• Alexander Duval, 24, of Fort Stewart, is charged with use of computer service to seduce, solicit, lure or entice a child to commit an illegal act — felony.
• Alexander Ramon Williams, 21, of Fort Stewart, is charged with use of computer service to seduce, solicit, lure or entice a child to commit an illegal act — felony.
• Thomas Ray Damewood, 25, of Savannah, is charged with use of computer service to seduce, solicit, lure or entice a child to commit an illegal act — felony.
• Devin Lamont Mitchell, 29, of Savannah, charged with sexual exploitation of a minor — felony.
• Nathan Daniel Foster, 38, of Savannah, is charged with pimping — misdemeanor
• Jazeene Simpson, 19, of Atlanta, is charged with prostitution.
• Shawntrice Bryant, 20, of Savannah, is charged with prostitution.

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
