Police seek witness in armed robbery

Richmond Hill police are seeking help from the public in looking for a man in relation to an armed robbery that took place Nov. 16 at the El Cheapo on Harris Trail Road in Richmond Hill.

Police are calling the man a witness, according to a press release issued by the Richmond Hill Police Department today. The witness was recently seen in a gold or tan four-door sedan. Identifying marks include a sunroof, rear marker light on the quarter panels and an antenna on the rear passenger side.

Just before 10 p.m. Nov. 16, a man wearing blue jeans and a tan jacket entered the El Cheapo. According to the police report, the man pointed a black gun at the clerk and ordered him to open to open the cash register. The suspect then jumped over the counter and told the clerk to lie on the floor. The suspect emptied the cash register and took some other items from the counter before running from the store.

Bryan County Commissioners on Tuesday night deferred a decision on whether to rezone some 3.8 acres near the historic Burnt Church Cemetery to allow a Parker’s Kitchen convenience store. The vote to defer the decision for 30 days to look into concerns raised by opponents to the project came after several residents – including parents of children buried in the 195-year-old cemetery – urged commissioners to deny the rezoning.
