In front of a packed crowd at the Richmond Hill City Center, incoming Mayor Kristi Cox kicked off her inaugural speech by giving thanks to all who came out as well as to the city staff and visiting judge Billy D. Reynolds, Sr., Bryan County’s Probate Judge.
“We’re at a pivotal moment in the history of Richmond HIll, and I’m grateful that you chose to be here with us”, said Cox.
Cox, who has previously served as a city councilmember and as Mayor Pro-Tem under outgoing Mayor Russ Carpenter, is a well-known figure in the community. She has lived in Richmond Hill for over 30 years with her husband and children, and has served under various local boards and currently works with non-profits such as Richmond Hill’s Kiwanis Club and United Way of the Coastal Empire.
“I am deeply honored by your confidence and the opportunity to continue serving this community, said Cox.”
In an electoral race marked by high engagement and voter turnout, Cox reaffirmed her commitment to leading the people of Richmond Hill through collaboration and cooperation.
“As mayor, I promise to lead with integrity, listen with an open heart, and serve with humility and respect,” said Cox.
“Our residents are our “why”, and every decision we make should improve this community as a place to live, work, and play. It is through open conversation that we grow and continue to improve the great city that we call home.”
“Together, with unity and purpose, we will continue to move Richmond Hill forward,” ended Cox.
Council members Kevin Bowes and Cindy Hatala were also sworn in on the night, adding two new members to Richmond Hill’s City Council.
The outgoing mayor Russ Carpenter was also present, as well as returning council members Steve Scholar and Van Hunter. Pembroke Mayor Tiffany Ziegler was slated to attend but could not due to illness.
