Richmond Hill resident Darryl Petermann is running for Floyd Hilliard’s soon-to-be-vacated Post 2 seat on the Richmond Hill city council. Petermann will face off against RHHS teacher Russ Carpenter on the Nov. 3 city election ballot.

Petermann said he believes some changes are needed in local government and, with the economy in mind, his 25 years experience as a business owner of a manufacturing company is tailor made for the task.

Petermann also has 21 years experience as a New York police detective. He has two children and six grandchildren, half of whom live in Richmond Hill.

Petermann said the economy is Richmond Hill’s "biggest fight we’ve got."

"Over the next few years, the City of Richmond Hill will be facing a tough economy," he said. "The city needs to work closely with our business community. We need to fashion our city ordinances to create an attractive environment for both new, start-up businesses and for companies wanting to relocate."
