Pembroke's Stewart elected as first district administrative judge

D. Jay Stewart, Superior Court Judge of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit has been elected by the Superior Court Judges of the First District, which includes the Atlantic, Brunswick, Eastern, Ogeechee, and Waycross Circuits, to serve a two-year term as Administrative Judge for the First Judicial District. 

The judges of each of the 10 Judicial Administrative Districts select an Administrative Judge who is responsible for executing the district’s administrative duties. These administrative tasks include the duty to assign judges to specific cases, to obtain information from the other courts of record within the district, to authorize judges from other courts to assist within the district when needed, and to develop personnel and budgetary policies. 

Judge Stewart was elected Judge of Superior Court of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit on November 7, 2006. He was born in Savannah and raised in Pembroke and Claxton. He earned a B. S. degree from Georgia Southern College (now Georgia Southern University) in 1986 and received his Juris Doctor from the Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University in 1991.

GeorgiaForward has announced that the 2025 Youth Placemaking Grant has been presented to the City of Pembroke Mayor’s Youth Council. The $500 grant, awarded to the city, will support a youth-led public placemaking project designed to foster creativity, community connection, and civic pride among young residents.
