Pembroke City Administrator Alex Floyd said Tuesday he made a mistake in August when he issued a statement that city council members “lost confidence,” in the city’s former clerk, Sharroll Fanslau, and that was why she was placed on administrative leave.

Floyd apologized in a written statement.

“On Aug. 11, I made a statement regarding the relationship between Pembroke City Council and the City Clerk Sharroll Fanslau,” the statement read. “My statement referred to deliberations made in an executive session of Council in which I was neither present nor participated and my statement should not have been made as I had no knowledge of the discussion and deliberations which occurred in the closed executive session meeting. Because I was not privy to the City Council discussions regarding Ms. Fanslau, I hereby retract my statement. I apologize for my error.”

Fanslau’s dismissal by council members was finalized Oct. 12 following an executive session.

She was appointed in 2016 to replace longtime clerk Betty Hill.

A reason for Fanslau’s dismissal was not provided.
