Pembroke Mayor Judy Cook and City Manager Alex Floyd celebrated Head Start Awareness Month on Oct. 18 by reading to two classrooms and spending time with children.

"Head Start is vital to our community, and we appreciate them taking the time to visit," said Amanda Callender, center supervisor for Bryan County Head Start/Pre-K. "They, like all of us here at Head Start, believe in the mission of educating and empowering families in order to build self-sufficiency.  We strive to break the cycle of poverty through education."

For more information about or to apply for the Head Start or Pre-K program (for income-eligible 3 and 4 year-old children), please contact Callender or Ann Chance at (912) 653-4990.
