One person is dead after an afternoon smashup Tuesday on Interstate 95 in Bryan County.

According to Trooper Joel Mock with the Georgia State Patrol, around 2:15 p.m. a Florida man was killed after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into two vehicles parked in the median near the northbound exit 87 on I-95.

“He lost control and exited the roadway, and at that same point where he left the roadway there were two contract trucks contracted to work for the DOT to cleanup the highway parked there, and he ended up striking both of those vehicles,” Mock said.

Neither of the trucks were occupied at the time of the accident, Mock added, noting there were no other injuries reported from the incident. The man’s name has not been released because officials are still trying to notify his family.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.
