The 63rd Expeditionary Signal Battalion will move from Fort Gordon to Fort Stewart in July, according to a press release from Fort Stewart.
The 63rd ESB will be a tenant unit on Fort Stewart and under the control of U.S. Army North.
The Department of the Army directed the relocation of the 63rd to enhance mission planning, readiness, training opportunities and professional development.
The 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart will provide installation support to the tenant unit.
The battalion's mission is to deploy in order to engineer, install, operate, maintain and defend the Army’s digital information infrastructure called LandWarNet in support of units.
The relocation to Fort Stewart will also provide development opportunities for junior officers and non-commissioned officers assigned to the unit and 3rd ID.
The relocation will result in an increase of more than 450 troops at Fort Stewart.
