Incoming commander is U.S. Military Academy grad

Fort Stewart and the 3rd Infantry Division will be getting a new commander, possibly this spring.

The Army announced Tuesdasy that Maj. Gen. Leopoldo "Lee" Quintas Jr. will succeed Maj. Gen. James Rainey.

Rainey is being assigned to Washington as an assistant deputy chief of staff in operations.

Quintas, who is currently a staff officer at U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg, N.C., is an armor officer who last served at Fort Stewart in 2012 as 3rd ID chief of staff. He then was promoted to commandant of the Army’s armor school.

A 1986 graduate of the United States Military Academy, Quintas has a hefty resume that includes a master’s degree in applied mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
