DoD identifies 3rd ID casualty

FORT STEWART — The U.S. Department of Defense announced Monday the death of a 3rd Infantry Division soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
Sgt. 1st Class Forrest W. Robertson, 35, of Westmoreland, Kan., died Sunday in Pul-E-Alam, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.
Robertson was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd ID at Fort Stewart.
A cavalry scout platoon sergeant, he joined the Army in July 1996 and arrived at the unit in December 2012. This was his fifth deployment.
Robertson’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal with Valor device.
