BCHS JROTC teams claim top region spots

Bryan County High School’s Junior ROTC program shined at the Raiders Region Championship Meet last Saturday in Statesboro.

Both the BCHS boys’ and girls’ teams were named areas 1 and 9 champions.

The BCHS boys’ team placed first in cross-country rescue with a time of 6 minutes, 35 seconds and in the tire flip in 2:20; second place in team run in 16:31 and fitness test in 9:55; and fourth in rope bridge in 1:53.

The girls’ team was first in team run in 19:35, the fitness test in 8:06 and the rope bridge in 2:03; and second in the tire flip (2:18) and cross-country rescue (9:31).

Other schools competing at the meet included Statesboro, Richmond Hill, Metter, Jenkins, Ware County, Southeast Bulloch, Benedictine and Thunderbolt.  

The Bryan County teams will compete in the state meet in Griffin. A date was unavailable at press time.

Girls’ team members are Logan Scott, Meghan Scott, Lindsay Bowen, Megan Messex, Jailyn Morgan, Vanessa Wilson, Ashlyn Williams, Amy Rountree, Tatianna Franks, Cassidy Joyner, Alexandria Foxworth, Cheyenne Blair, Kristen Roberson, Hailey Hendrix, Racheal Thackston, Jessica Hammond, Daikenya Dukes, Takerriya Davis, Deisy Aguilar and Selena Hernandez.

Boys’ team members are Cody Cameron, Ethan Coello, Brian Morgan, Stephen Giddens, Joseph Wilson, Steven Boyd, Mitchell Miller, Darrin Gusman, Collin Brown, Alex Hearn, Patrick Vonwaldner, Nathan Littleton, Lishen Zachary, Patrick Barretta, Christopher Parish, Justen Olerken, Jacob Bryan and Kristian Devine.

The team is led by Maj. Charles Mercer and Sgt. 1st Class Stevie Stringer.
