On Tuesday afternoon, Memorial Health officials reaffirmed their plans to build freestanding emergency rooms in Pooler and Richmond Hill. The Supreme Court of Georgia has recently declined to hear the appeal challenging the Georgia Department of Community Health’s (DCH) approval for the future facilities.
“We’re excited that, after a long legal process, the Supreme Court of Georgia’s decision means we can finally move forward with building freestanding emergency rooms in Pooler and Richmond Hill. These are two of the fastest-growing communities in our region, and families there deserve access to high-quality emergency care close to home,” said Brad Talbert, CEO of Memorial Health.
Each facility is set to be staffed 24/7 by board-certified emergency physicians and nurses, with full imaging and lab capabilities. Physicians at these facilities will be able to diagnose and treat patients with serious medical conditions, provide emergency treatment, and if necessary, transfer the patient to the hospital for additional care.
“Our goal is simple: make it easier and faster for people to get the care they need—because when minutes matter, care close to home can make all the difference. “This is about saving time, saving lives, and serving our neighbors where they live. We’re proud to move ahead and deliver on our commitment to expand access to care in coastal Georgia,’ said Talbert.
According to Talbert, the emergency rooms are set to be operational “anywhere from 18 to 24 months”, planning and design permitting.
The Richmond Hill ER location is set to be located on Port Royal Rd. & Hwy 144, close to the Publix at Richmond Hill Plantation.
