Memorial Day in Bryan County: Fewer flags, same sentiment
Pembroke flags

Pembroke’s usual flag display, seen on Memorial Day and other patriotic holidays, usually includes around 200 flags and fills McEachin Square with red, white and blue atop white crosses with the names of Pembroke’s veterans.

It was scaled down this year, but volunteers with Pembroke American Legion Post 164 and the city still found time to erect seven flags in honor of local sons who died in combat: John Duggar (WWI), Johnny Kangetter (WWII), John O. Bacon (Korea) and Joel P. Dameron (Iraq).
