Mayor presents awards to 'everyday hero' and SD Gunner Fund volunteers

Jose Ortiz (left) received the Everyday Hero Award.

Jose Ortiz (above photo) received the Everyday Hero Award from Mayor Russ Carpenter at Tuesday's Richmond Hill City Council meeting.

Ortiz was recognized for his quick action to help a three-year-old boy from drowning. The boy is expected to make a full recovery, according to Carpenter.

Also at the meeting,  SD Gunner Fund volunteers were awarded the Presidential Volunteer Award.
