Wildfire breaks out in South Bryan

Multiple agencies are battling a wildfire off Belfast Keller Road on both sides of the CSX railroad tracks that extends all the way to Liberty County.

Bryan County Emergency Services Chief Freddy Howell said firefighters from the Richmond Hill Fire Department and Georgia Forestry Commission are assisting.

Howell said the first might have been caused by a spark from a passing train due to the current drought conditions.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture indicates that Bryan County is experiencing a moderate drought currently, with less than one-tenth of an inch of rain fall over the last seven days.
