Unofficially, Bryan County voters said yes to ESPLOST on Tuesday, passing the measure by nearly a 2-1 margin.
Though the numbers still have to be certified and some 68 write-in ballots had not yet been counted, preliminary results Tuesday night showed the penny sales tax for education passed by a vote of 2,188 to 1,157, an election official said.
Bryan County Board of Education Chairman Eddie Warren welcomed the news.
"I want to thank the people of Bryan County for doing the right thing and taking care of the children," he said. "It is much appreciated and will be used wisely by the BoE. I'm also glad people realize about 60 percent of that money comes from outside Bryan County."
