Tybee Island residents clean trash after gathering

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (AP) — Some residents ofTybee Islandare angry after college students and young adults left piles of cans, bottles, cups and other trash on the beach after an annual gathering known as "Orange Crush."

The Savannah Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/IjA5eC) that tourists joined residents on Sunday to help clean the beach.

Orange Crush is an unofficial yearly gathering on the beach along Georgia's coast.

Tybee IslandPolice Chief Bob Bryson said it's tough to prevent littering when there are throngs of people on the beach. Bryson saidTybeepolice made 18 arrests Sunday, six of them for felony drug offenses.

Mayor Jason Buelterman called littering from this year's gathering "really, really bad" but said they will do what is needed to clean up the beach.
