The Georgia Department of Transportation announced that traffic was scheduled to be shifted today on Highway 80/State Route 26 at the Bryan/Effingham County line to move traffic to the newly constructed bridge over the Ogeechee River.

Drivers should expect major delays on that route because of the shift, the GDOT said late Thursday afternoon, and motorists are urged to use alternate routes.

The new bridge replaces a span that was aging and considered too narrow by local officials. A ribbon cutting for the bridge was held Nov. 12.
