Fifth-graders at Dr. George Washington Carver Elementary School were paid a visit by re-enactor Dave Swinford last week to learn about the day-to-day life of soldiers during the Civil War.

In this picture, Swinford, dressed as a Union soldier, is holding an original 1816 Springfield musket made at the Harpers Ferry Armory in 1826.
