SAVANNAH — A Savannah man says he’s in disbelief after buying a scratch-off lottery ticket that ended up being worth $20,000.

The Georgia Lottery said Monday that 65-year-old Jessie Hamilton collected his winnings after buying a ticket for the instant game $20,000 Jacksons at an Eisenhower Drive convenience store on the city’s suburban south side.

Hamilton, who is retired from the Army, says he waited until he got home to scratch the ticket and was stunned to discover it was a winner.

The Georgia Lottery says ticket sales have raised more than $13.8 billion for education since ticket sales began in 1993.
