About 50 people gathered at the Suites at Station Exchange on Wednesday to celebrate resident Mary Vetter’s 100th birthday.

Mrs. Vetter was born Mary Castellano on April 15, 1916, on Long Island.

She married John Vetter in Brooklyn in 1947.

They moved to Richmond Hill in 1988, and Mr. Vetter died in 2010.

They have a daughter, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.

Rich DeLong, executive director of Station Exchange Senior Care, asked the guests if anyone had been to a 100th birthday party, and only a few raised their hands.

Jimmy Burnsed, the chairman of the Bryan County Board of Commissioners, presented Mrs. Vetter with a resolution the board passed Tuesday night proclaiming Friday as “Mrs. Mary Vetter Day” in Bryan County.
