Adults and children alike lined the sidewalks of Hwy. 144 and Richard Davis Drive on Saturday morning when marching bands, cheerleaders, parade floats and more rolled through town as part of the 16th annual Richmond Hill Christmas parade.
Children anxiously awaited each float that came by in hopes that some sort of sweet treat would be thrown their way. And with this year’s “A Sweet Candy Christmas” theme, candy could be found everywhere.
Nancy Frye, city zoning administrator and parade committee member, said around 80 groups entered, but more than 100 units were in the parade because several participants had numerous floats or cars. Frye described the parade as one of the best to date.
“I think the turnout was phenomenal and I know the parade itself was the largest we’ve had,” she said
Tunes from the marching bands of Richmond Hill High School, the 3rd Infantry Division Band from Fort Stewart, Windsor Forest High School and Bradwell Institute brought parade-watchers to their feet, while cheerleaders from RHHS, Calvary Day School and Savannah Christian Preparatory School pumped up the crowd.
