High school valedictorians from around the state were invited to meet Gov. Nathan Deal the first weekend in June, including Kevin Zhu from Richmond Hill High School.

Bryan County High School valedictorian Allison Lamb said she was attending her cousin’s wedding and could not go to the capitol.

The event was started by Gov. Zel Miller in 1993. Gov. Deal skipped the Georgia Republican Party convention to meet with valedictorians on June 3 and June 4.

Zhu will attend Georgia Tech to study biomedical engineering and computer science.
