The Bryan County Board of Education on Thursday gave its approval for the Richmond Hill High School Marching Band to use Kelly Tours Charter Buses for its trip in April to Washington, D.C., to perform in the National Cherry Blossom Parade.

The motion was approved during the board’s meeting Thursday in Bryan County High School.

The annual parade drew more than 160,000 spectators this year, according to NationalCherryBlossomFestival.org. That comes on the heels of the band being named grand champion at the Georgia Marching Band Series finals Nov. 7 in Thomson.

“It’s an amazing accomplishment,” Superintendent Dr. Paul Brooksher said after the meeting. “The RHHS band has done an exceptional job of building its capacity and highlighting talent.”

The band’s trip will run April 15-17, with the parade scheduled for April 16.
