Proposed store draws ire at council meeting

Plans for a proposed Family Dollar store in Richmond Hill are on hold after a decision by the Richmond Hill City Council during Tuesday’s regularly scheduled meeting.
The council unanimously approved tabling four requests from TRC Richmond Hill LLC regarding the proposed store, which would be built at the corner of Mulberry Drive and Highway 17.
Council member Russ Carpenter made the motion to table the items because the developer did not have a traffic study completed to determine what kind of impact the store might have on the area.
“This city has requested a stoplight to be put at that intersection two years in a row and maybe twice before and we’re gearing up to do it again,” Carpenter said. “To approve this without a traffic study is absolutely ludicrous.”
