Pembroke residents can view crime online

A report of property damage on Byrd Temple Road, a domestic dispute on Cherry Street and a photo and description of a registered sex offender living on Camellia Drive.

These are just some of the latest types of information found on the Pembroke crime map that recently became available via a partnership between the city Police Department and CrimeReports, creators of the National Crime Map at www.CrimeReports.com.

As of late February, residents can view the Pembroke crime map for free on the website or through the CrimeReports iPhone application. They also can sign up on the site to have free, customizable crime alerts sent to their e-mail or cell phone. For example, residents can choose which types of crimes they would like to be alerted about and specify how often they would like to receive the notices.

Pembroke City Council member Tiffany Walraven said the CrimeReports website will be valuable for residents.

“I think it will help citizens feel a lot more safe because they will know what’s going on in the community,” she said.
