Even though the weather doesn’t always cooperate here in South Georgia, the calendar says fall has arrived and Pembroke is ready for it.

The Pembroke Spooktacular has quickly become a community favorite and a great way to welcome the season. The fifth annual installment is scheduled for Oct. 29.

Pembroke Spooktacular gets started with a citywide yard sale that day beginning at 7:30 a.m. Booth spaces are available for $10 each and both individuals and organizations are welcome to participate. The yard sale will be held in the downtown parking area and will wrap up at 1 p.m.

BBQ masters can show off their cooking skills in the Spooktacular BBQ Cook-Off. Teams can sign up through Friday for a cost of $150 per entry. Contestants will be able to sell their mouthwatering masterpieces beginning the night of Oct. 28 and throughout Oct. 29. They will be conveniently located at the downtown parking area.

The Pembroke Spooktacular Fall Festival will take place at the Harn Center recreation fields from 3-9 p.m. This is a new location for the event previously held downtown. There will be games, concessions, contests, prizes, a movie in the park and a haunted forest hayride. Nonprofit groups can set up a booth for a $10 fee.

There will be contests for carved pumpkins, pinecone crafts, pets’ costumes and kids’ costumes. Drawings for baskets donated by local businesses will take place every hour beginning at 4 p.m. Entries can be obtained by donating canned goods.

The event offers a great opportunity for nonprofits. Commercial vendors will not be allowed to participate in the festival, so groups will have the chance to set up games or sell food to raise money for their cause. Funds raised from the event itself help support the work of the Downtown Development Authority. For more information, contact DDA Director Alex Floyd at (912) 653-4413.
